Research indicates that avena sativa (aka green oats), an herbal extract made from green oats, may boost libido. Although the processes are unclear, avena sativa may work by freeing up testosterone. This sex hormone, which stimulates sex drive, becomes bound to a number of compounds within the body at an increasing rate as people age. Male and female subjects in one experiment reported an increase in sexual desire and performance after taking an oat and nettle supplement.
According to a Men's Health magazine survey, men taking 300 mg per day of green oats extract increased sexual activity by 54 percent. However, rigorous scientific research is still lacking, and we should therefore await further evidence of avena sativa's efficacy before passing final judgment.
